CDP Mongolia

CHF International has facilitated the creation of four independent sewing groups to allow hundreds of low skilled workers to form cooperative businesses.

The members of these sewing groups have varied capacity and skills related to sewing and business management. CHF provides technical assistance and trainings to ensure the members have the tools necessary to succeed.
CHF has coordinated a unique linkage between a large garment manufacturer and the sewing groups. Darkhan Nekhii, a sheepskin tannery and garment manufacturer, buys sheepskins, processes the skins, and produces garments.

The company produces a great deal of usable scrap material which had grown as an unused resource for the company. Nekhii now provides the sewing groups with the scrap materials and designs for small products to create. The sewing groups return their finished products to the manufacturer to be sold and are compensated for their labor.

Through the IMPPACTS program, CHF will work with groups like this to become independent entities, expand to other business clients, diversify their products, and solidify their cooperative practices.
