Serbia

CHF International has been working in Serbia since 2001 to bring communities together to plan for their own development. At the moment, CHF/Serbia is helping communities in southern and central Serbia to plan and prepare for emergencies and is working with businesses to expand economic opportunity to at-risk groups in Serbia, including youth, displaced persons, and the very poor.

CRDA Serbia

At the end of 2007, CHF International completed the Community Revitalization and Development Activity (CRDA) program, funded by USAID, after six years of bringing communities in Serbia together to build better lives. CRDA worked with 156 communities throughout the country to help them transition economically and democratically following the turbulence of the early 90s. The program mobilized communities to democratically identify infrastructure projects that would benefit the entire community—schools, cultural centers, bridges, roads, improved water and sanitation systems, and more—while creating thousands of jobs in the process. Through the CRDA program, 156 communities were able to complete more than 1,300 of revitalization projects, improving the lives of over 5 million Serbians. Read more about CRDA and its impact on individual lives here.

In addition, since May 2006, CHF International has been helping to implement the Serbia Contingency Planning and Economic Security Program (SCOPES) in southern Serbia. SCOPES is being implemented by Development Alternatives, Inc. (DAI) in collaboration with CHF International and Booz Allen Hamilton, with funding from USAID, to strengthen the capacity of municipalities to prepare for and respond to natural and man-made disasters. In addition, the SCOPES program is identifying groups that are particularly vulnerable—including youth, displaced persons, and the unemployed, to expand their economic opportunities in conjunction with the local private sector.
