Local Government Reform
CHF International fosters governmental accountability and responsiveness by implementing participatory strategic planning methods that engage local governments, the private sector, and citizens in joint planning to address key priorities such as risk mitigation, local economic development, and environmental action.
CHF supports decentralization processes to help realize the potential for more responsive governments. CHF International advising national governments on policies affecting the role of local governments in providing housing, infrastructure, and services, and we work with local government associations to advocate and lobby for change. We work directly with local municipalities to improve service delivery, implement competitive and transparent procurement processes, streamline administration and operational procedures, and promote economic development and job creation.
In addition to providing a mechanism for citizens to make their governments transparent and accountable, the citizen groups we organize in nearly every CHF project often serve as incubators for new local leaders, and provide an effective mechanism for lasting community engagement. As a result, after the culmination of CHF’s work, these community groups often become associations, cooperatives and sustainable local development organizations.
